What is a VIN?
A Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) is a unique 17-character code assigned to every vehicle manufactured since 1981. It contains encoded information about the vehicle's make, model, year, manufacturing location, trim level, engine type, and more.
You can find your VIN in several places: on the driver's side dashboard (visible through the windshield), on the driver's side door jamb, on your vehicle registration, or on your insurance documents.
Why decode a VIN? When shopping for a used car, the VIN tells you exactly what you're getting — not what the listing claims, but what the manufacturer originally built.
